In David Staples' recent article,
He makes some pretty strong claims.  I want to relate the logic of this article to another field; Pig Farming. Lets say a farmer has received a pig with the goal of getting it ready for market....

First, Staples writes

...the old Provincial Achievement Tests written at the end of Grades Three, Six and Nine, will be moved to the start of those years, so that teachers, parents and students can better use the results to identify weaknesses in students that can be addressed through the school year.

This translates to...

when a farmer receives the new pig, the farmer should weigh the pig and complete diagnostic tests , in front of the previous owner, to assess how the pig should be treated.

Ok this makes sense...lets move on.. Next you read

Ultimately I would love to see an annual SLA,....I think there’s a lot of merit to looking at that... the child could take the digital exam several times through the school year to get more constant feedback.

This translates to...

We should weigh pigs more often as this will fatten them up.  The farmer had planned to weigh the pig only X times and since the pig is not gaining weight we should weigh it 4X times as this will now cause the weight of the pig to increase.
